Stained glass pictures

 My husband finished framing and hanging all the embroidered stained glass pictures and they are absolutely beautiful.

I also put the Heritage Quilt on our bed in place of the Latte Quilt which was on our bed since 2010.

The two done in shades of purple below are in the guest room complimenting the satin/tafetta quilt I made in 2015.

Advanced beginner quilt

I added a turquoise border to the remaining butterfly which brought out the colors beautifully and gifted it to a dear friend of mine who had it framed in silver.

So proud of these beautiful embroideries.

Prize winning quit

When I started working on this quit, winning prizes was the last thing on my mind.  After 8 months of not quilting at all after our house burned, this was the first project I started working on.  I wanted to use taffeta and when I found a beautiful coordinating satin, there was no stopping.

Little did I knew that this quilt would go on to win first prize in it's class at the Bloem Show as well as 2 special prizes - one for best quilted article and one for best traditional quilt!

At the prize giving function I received these two trophy's:

And the winner is.... 

This quilt of mine won First Place at our Guild's first quarterly meeting of 2016 which was also co-hosted by my Quilting group, the Rotary Cutters.  Everybody just loved it and was quite astonished at the fabrics I used namely satin and taffeta. 

I received a goody bag full of niceties!

Advanced Beginners Quilt - Finished!

My 2015 project is finished!  I learned a lot and thoroughly enjoyed making this beauty.

Using satin and taffeta was quite a challenge but well worth in the end.

This quilt is growing at a steady pace now with only 4 more blocks to go.  I am really excited to see the end product.  As we are quilting-as-you go, this will surely be finished at the end of the year and will not turn into another ufo.

Another 2 blocks finished.  After being on holiday for 2 weeks and having the flue, I had fallen behind with 4 blocks to finish.  I am working hard to catch up to the girls!

This quilt is progressing at a steady pace with this applique block done as well.  Techniques used include applique, reverse applique, trapunto and Suffolk puffs.

We finally moved back into our own home during March after the repairs was done.  The house is almost new with lots of improvements for which we are so grateful.  We had insurance on the building as well as the contents and had absolutely no problems at all getting our claims finalized.

The rest of our quilting group started in February with an Advanced Quilt Course.  When all my stuff was eventually unpacked, I was a little behind and had to hurry to catch up to them.  It is absolutely heavenly to be able to quilt and embroider again.  I missed it dearly for the 7 months whilst everything was in storage.

For this quilt, I decided to use Satin and Taffeta.  I adore Taffeta as it looks so rich and luxurious that I just had to make something with it.  The photo's was taken before quilting was done.  We are using the quilt-as-you-go technique, so each block is quilted after assembly.
