Charity Quilt

A few of my quilting friends decided to make a quilt for charity and asked me to design the centre block.  I offered to make the block instead and this is what I came up with.

The main fabric used contained beautiful wonky hearts which I enlarged 200 and 400% and appliqued.  Then I embroidered some dragonflies and spider webs in between - continuing the theme of the main fabric.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 



Charity Quilt completed

Our Group's Charity Quilt is finished and looks absolutely stunning.  It was awarded a second prize at our annual show in the Groups Quilt category.

 

 

 

 

 

 



Even Missy and Vlerrie (the cat) admired it.

Charity Quilt - Part 4

The Charity Quilt (read this post) did not get finished last year as we had hoped.  We are currently busy stitching all the blocks together and is trying to get it finished in time for the annual Show (Fair).

Sonja and Jolita of our group stitched these 9 patches as one of our former group members, Natasha moved to Centurion before her blocks was done.

These applique blocks was Jolita Geel's contribution.  She is also going to free motion the quilt for us.  Unfortunately, she has since decided to leave our group.  Although we share the same very rare surname, we are not family.

The last 4 blocks was done by Sonja Snyman.



The completed quilt is going to be a real beauty.

Charity Quilt - Part 3

Nearly all the blocks for the Charity Quilt I wrote about in this and this post is finished.  The completed quilt is going to be awesome.  Herewith some more photo's:

Crazy Quilt blocks for Charity Quilt - Part 2

I have been struggling with these 4 Crazy Quilt Blocks for our group's Charity Quilt project which I wrote about here, for more than a week.  Deciding how to decorate them was clearly not my strong point.  Being back at work doesn't help either as the creative juices just don't flow as good.  But looking at the photo I think they turned out ok.

Charity Quilt - Part 1

Our quilt group, the Rotary Cutters, decided to donate a Sampler quilt for charity this year.  Every member got to choose her favourite technique and prepare 4 12.5 inch blocks.  We are donating the quilt to The Muscular Dystrophy Research Foundation of South Africa and hope that they will be able to raise money for research.  My firstborn died as a result of  Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in 2003 3 weeks before his 20th birthday.

My 4 blocks looks like this and will form the centre of the quilt.
