Kaleidoscope runner

I made this runner a year ago whilst on holiday but was not allowed to post any photo's of it as it was made for our Quilt Festival.  With the festival now under way, I can finally showcase this beautiful runner.

Although it is only 15 blocks stitched together, it took 2 days to complete as it is quite time consuming.  It was done using the paper foundation technique.

Innovative Quilt Part 4

I completed another one of the  three owls.  My husband was so clever in finding a hairpin to use for the beak.  Now I just need to get the teacher's blessing as well.

Hopefully I will get more ideas tomorrow night at our group meeting as I'm struggling with the last owl. It seems I used up all my ideas.

Innovative Quilt Part 3

Luckily our group meeting for May was postponed by a week, so I managed to catch up with this quilt.  The 3rd and last owl was appliqued and stitched - ready for embellishing as well.

9 of the 10 traditional blocks are also complete.

And last but not least - the first owl is complete .

With our next meeting planned for the 18th of June, I am still under pressure to get the other pair embellished, but after conquering this one, I feel a lot more confident.

Our Group's Charity Quilt is finished and looks absolutely stunning.  It was awarded a second prize at our annual show in the Groups Quilt category.

Even Missy and Vlerrie (the cat) admired it.

Innovative Quilt Part 2

After seriously falling behind with this quilt due to overtime and the Challenge quilt I wrote about in the 2 previous posts, I finally manage to continue working on the trio of Owl blocks.  The second owl was appliqued and stitched, ready for embellishment.

Advert Challenge Quilt - Part 2

As I wanted a luxurious look, I used satin fabric in white, black, silver and gold.  All the shapes is appliqued to which I added jewels after free motioning the large open areas.  I added tassels to the corners to finish it off.  The sasching and border was done with a gold on black cotton print.

I bought the jewels all over town to get the correct sizes and colours.  All of the blocks was used twice.  In most cases I swopped the colours to create a different look every time.

Do email me at wgeel@mweb.co.za for the pattern if you want to make one for yourself.
