Baby Shower

During my daughter (Megan) and son-in-law (Mark's) recent visit from England, I organized a baby shower for her.  They are expecting their first baby in January and although she was only 12 weeks at the time, I decided to go ahead rather than having to ship all the presents at a later stage.  They haven't bought anything yet but went home with a suitcase filled to the brim with nearly everything necessary.  A few items which she will use when baby is bigger, was left at home which we will take with on our visit next year.

Before I started on my quilting journey in 2010 I actually had time to do other things beside quilting :-)  Feeling rather bored whilst watching movies with my husband, I knitted baby stuff which to Megan seemed rather crazy at the time.  But, she is pregnant now....

The expecting parents.  They were married on the 25th of January 2013 at the Maldives.

As Megan absolutely adores Pooh Bear, I made this nappy cake with Pooh and friends.
I also made a duvet cover featuring Baby Pooh with Tigger, Eyeore and Piglet also as babies.  I used a pre-printed panel I bought at a quilt shop and just added the back.

All the presents.  Most of my colleagues at work gave money towards a rather substantial voucher which M & M spend at Baby City.

A Baby Banner which pattern I downloaded fromDesigns in Machine Embroidery's website and embroidered.

A green jersey with a teddy bear appliqued with satin - knitted by me.

A white one.  I knitted a blanket with this pattern as well in blue, green, white and pink squares.

A yellow romper embellished with a white teddy bear.  I knitted a bunch of socks as well.

I found this cute Baby Shower image on the Internet and used it as a thank you card for all the guests.  I added a message from M & M with a chocolate.

Quilt Festival 2013

The Quilt Festival we have been working on the past two years, is over.  As far as I could gather, it was a huge success.  I did not attend any workshops as my daughter and son in law from England is visiting.

I did however visited the exhibition and was blown away.  Every single quilt showcased is an artwork.  Gone is the days of  "ordinary" (traditional) patchwork quilting - the type I grew up with and was never attracted to.  Not that there is anything wrong with the traditional quilts, it simply is not my style.  The newer, modern versions and techniques are more my cup of tea.

Below are photo's of some of them.  But before getting to them I must congratulate the Rafels Quilt Group on the absolutely gorgeous Goody Bags we received.  It was like being on a treasure hunt and clearly shows that a lot of thought went into the Bags of which I will post photo's in a future post.

The first photo is a quilt constructed with Suffolk Puffs:

This one was my husband's Viewer Choice.  A beautiful flower arrangement with the flowers all cut out and assembled into a gorgeous bouquet:

And who would have thought that you can actually paint with fabric?

A beautiful Crazy Quilt

An abstract work of art by Susan Wessels called Flight of Fancy:

Below was one of the entries for the Advertisement Challenge competition I also participated in.  This one depicts 5 Roses Tea.

I unfortunately did not wrote down the quilters names. My sincere apologies.

Kaleidoscope runner

I made this runner a year ago whilst on holiday but was not allowed to post any photo's of it as it was made for our Quilt Festival.  With the festival now under way, I can finally showcase this beautiful runner.

Although it is only 15 blocks stitched together, it took 2 days to complete as it is quite time consuming.  It was done using the paper foundation technique.

During the first meeting of 2024 in February, friend Ansulet Swanepoel demonstrated a rather mind-blowing technique enabling quilters to tur...
