Sham set finished

My husband and son went fishing today, so I was able to spend the whole day behind my sewing machine.  I managed to cross 12 items off my very bulky "To Do" list for the day.

This Sham set was part of the items finished today.  A pillow or sheet sham is just a decorative cover placed over the pillow and on top of the sheet.  As can be seen on the photo's, it covers only part of the pillow.  I apologize for the quality of some of the photo's.

The design is from Louisa Meyer and can be found here.

My First Quilt

In 2009 my embroidery friend, Maresa Pretorius, invited me on a quilting journey.  She wanted to make a Latte Quilt for each of her two daughters and asked whether I would be interested.  Being an embroidery enthusiast as well, I jumped at the chance.

It took the better part of 18 months to finish.  Each of the 16 blocks was embroidered in 8 to 14 steps as I could only embroider 13 x 18 cm at the time.  A completed block measured 35 x 35 cm.  As neither of us mastered the free motion stitching at the time, we had it done.  Look on the Quilting page for photo's of the complete quilt.

Funky Roosty Designs

I've just loaded photo's of my Funky Roosty machine embroidery design set on the "for sale" page.  There are 10 designs in the set and are all applique designs.  I thoroughly enjoyed digitizing them and think they are quite, well, Funky!

Bathroom make over

After getting out of the bath one too many time without any towels in sight, I decided to embroider our names on it and now my towel stays put.  I embroidered multiple sets for customers over the last 12 years, but never made time for ourselves.  Whilst busy with the towels, I also dressed the windows with new curtains.

Struggling with multiple unfinished projects

At the moment there are unfortunately not much embroidering going on.  I'm trying to finish projects started and left unfinished due to the fact that I decided to embroider bibs and baby shoes for the Eunice Christmas Market last year.  It was however, a complete waste of precious time as I didn't even break even with my expenses.

This is what 65 bibs look like:

And a few close ups

Sailor Bib

And the 65 pair of embroidered baby shoes:

So, if anyone needs a gift for a baby shower....

Luckily (for me) was my husband between jobs at the time and he helped embroider the shoes.  Yep, he really loves me.

Well, I'm not playing that game any time soon.

Joining the blogging world

I have been thinking about starting a blog for a few months now, but between working fulltime, embroidery and quilting there just never seem to be time.  So, here we go at last.  I'll be using it mainly to show my friends what I'm up to.

Clover and stitch

During the first meeting of 2024 in February, friend Ansulet Swanepoel demonstrated a rather mind-blowing technique enabling quilters to tur...
